For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Today we are celebrating the life of our grandson, Skyler, along with our family and many many friends who knew and loved him. Skyler, 18 years old, was a senior in High School. On Thanksgiving evening, he was walking in the neighborhood of his grandparents on his fathers' side when a pickup truck hit him from behind and killed him.

Jo Ann and I, his other grandparents, were far away in Moldova when the news arrived. By His grace, we were able to catch a flight out of Chișinău, Moldova on Saturday arriving in Ohio that evening. Yes, we are in Ohio at this moment and in a few hours will be with our family and friends at the funeral graciously hosted by the local church that Skyler attended here in Sidney, Ohio.

We had been mentally preparing to send a Thanksgiving letter to express our gratitude for the progress that we were making in our language studies and also the news that we were able to purchase a 2012 Hyundai eight-passenger van. We would have shared with you details of a new church plant that we are partnering with and the plans for ministries at the Christian University and mentoring students beginning in January.

We know that you pray for us and the ministries in Moldova, but it is hard to focus on those things just now. Jo Ann and I plan to remain in Ohio to be with our daughter Shelly whose son is now in the presence of the Lord. Our return ticket is to fly back to Moldova on January 4, 2018.

We know that we do not need to ask you to pray for us at this time. No doubt, you already are. Thank you for being by our side at such a time as this.
