Busy Daze

Most people like to tell their story from the beginning, but how boring is that? I suggest that we start from the end and work our way to the beginning. Hopefully, we can cover all the news in a flash.

The school year at Bluewater Bible College (BBC) ended last May with the traditional march. Rejoice with us that both graduates are already serving the Lord teaching in Christian Schools here on St. Thomas. What a delight to see these young students complete their studies and then launching out to serve our Lord. Please click here to enjoy some pictures from graduation 2014 and please continue to pray for these two graduates.

At the end of June, we traveled from St. Thomas to Pennsylvania for Rich to attend summer courses at Columbia International University. We knew that the three courses were going to require an extraordinary effort for a “young at heart” person, and we were right. The great news is that Rich completed all three courses in good shape, survived the summer, and came out of the daze! Thank you for praying!

Just as the summer courses were ending, we got a call from Beth Eden Baptist Church in Denver inviting us to their mission’s conference. The timing was perfect and we were able to fly out to Denver to join with some young missionaries who are doing amazing work on their fields. What an encouragement to see committed young couples giving their lives to serve the Lord in some truly challenging places. May the Lord speak to the hearts of other young couples to consider missions!

Lazy Daze

One of the blessings of being grandparents is spending time with the grandchildren. For us, this doesn’t always coincide with the yearning of our hearts due to our residence in a faraway place. A week with several of our grandchildren and our daughter Rachelle was so enjoyable, and we are grateful for this gift provided by the Lord near the end of July.

Being genuine grandparents, we knew that some of you might be just dying to see pictures of our summer visit with the part of the family in PA. Don’t click here if you could live without family pictures!

Now it was time for check-ups and check-out. All the doctors confirmed that we are in great shape for the shape we are in and sent us on our way. We flew from Pennsylvania to St. Thomas arriving once again to our little house/apartment on the beautiful campus of BBC.

Not Dazing

The reports of the camps that took place on the campus during the summer months were encouraging. Many children made decisions to trust Christ along with other decisions. Several of the BBC students were also serving in those camps and even flying to other islands to serve in camps. What a blessing to see the students using their knowledge, skills and energy to serve the Lord with practical training even while they are in formal training.

As we draw closer to “the beginning,” we want to share even more good news. Short term, missionary, Gwyndolyn Ensley, landed on the island just a few days after our arrival. Gwyndolyn is now a part of the faculty and administration here at BBC. She courageously accepted the call to teach a course at the last minute and is a huge help in the office. Thank you for praying for her.

Prayerful Daze

We have now arrived at “the beginning.” The new school year began on Monday, August 25th and we are into the Fall semester. Rich is teaching 3 courses this semester along with taking another course at CIU online (Alternative Educational Delivery Systems). It may be hard to find any time for spearfishing this semester! One BBC student was placed under doctor’s care on her island and plans to return for the Spring 2015 semester. Please pray for Aneita that she would regain her health.

After much prayer, planning and fund raising, we are elated to report that Logos Bible Software is now being used on the campus by most of the men students. This software will be loaded on the computers of all incoming students, and from this point forward be a normal part of the training at BBC. Logos is being used in the classroom and the students are discovering the value of this powerful Bible study tool.

Another blessing this year is the incorporation of online courses provided by Horizon International – an educational department related to ABWE. This semester students are taking Old Testament Survey online and being introduced to a bit of twenty first century educational technology. Some of our dreams are becoming reality. Thank you for praying!

Your faithfulness in prayer and support is such an encouragement as we seek to provide excellent spiritual and academic training for servants in the Caribbean and beyond. There are several prayer requests that are included on our “Quick Prayer and Praise” page. Our hearts are full of gratitude know that you will continue to keep us in your prayers.
